Moved the Unifi controller setup from the UDM over to a Raspberry Pi unit I have doing DNS duty, now Unifi APs are managed from there. Any thoughts on where I should go from where I am at?ĮDIT: Just installed the RB4011iGS+RM I bought, ZERO regrets. Mikrotik seems to have a great reputation for the routing/switching side of things (I really like the look of the RB1100AHx4, having that many wired Ethernet ports on the router would keep me from having to buy a separate network switch as most of my equipment is wireless). I don't really want to move to a serious 'business' system for my wireless (like Ruckus) but would like something that has some more RF config flexibility than a bone-standard 'home' wireless setup usually has.
These little IoT units I have are integral to my home automation system (HVAC controls and security alarm) so they are not easily replaced. I recently bought a new home and some Ubiquiti equipment for it (a Unifi Dream Machine, two nanoHD APs and a 8-port PoE switch) which was nice at first because their management software worked ok and gave a nice UI, but I always had problems getting a few IoT devices to play nice on the 2.4GHz side.
I moved into a small one-bedroom for a few years and basic 'home' wifi/router gear was OK for that environment. I had a Linux based router setup a long time ago (think LRP) and really enjoyed the flexibility and power of the command line interface.
